Anámhin is a Leasiar from Siabhal, born in the summer of 669 TR into a Ruby Family who are descended from one of the Hundred Heroes, legendary figures in Siabhal's history, and are thus considered members of the Ruby Court. However, this branch of the O'Conlaoch family, the Manor branch, are merely considered to be part of the Scarlet Circle, still holding their ancestral home of Conlaoch Manor, but lacking significant political and societal influence. Pressure form her parents to conform to their Ambitions and way of life would eventually see Anámhin leave Siabhal, and spend many decades travelling throughout the Five Realms.

The final nail in the coffin for Anáwyn was her parents attempt to use her in a strategic marrige for their political aspirations. Uninterested and tired of being a pawn in their games any longer, this would be the event that would lead to Anáwyn leaving Siabhal. Anámhin was 35 at the time.

Travelling the Five Realms
Anámhin in Baol
It is known to some within Cumhact na Réig that Anámhin would spend some time travelling around Baol within a wandering bard troop. At some point during their travells, they were ambushed and kidnapped by a group of Highlanders and taken into the Highlands. It would take Anámhin two attempts before finally escaping. This experience would ultimatley lead to Anámhin subequently leaving Baol.

Anámhin in Bruid
Anámhin would eventually find herself in Bruid around Spring of 731 TR. Taking a particular liking to the people and way of life in Bruid, she would evnetually make the Realm her home. Many more years of travel and exploration would follow, specifically in Baol and Uasa, but they would always always come back to Bruid, making her home in a modest village near the boarders of the Great Forest, between Siorghlas and Lorbeer.

The Time of Uncertainty (798-800 TR)
Anámhin would find herself trapped within Baol during the season of uncertanty. Speficially, she would find herself trapped in Uaircin, with the city undergoing constant Gwyllt onslaughts, likely remaining stuck there until after the battle of the Scarlet Heather.

With the Great Forest's expansion over the Seasons of Uncertainty, Anámhin found her village was now deep within its territory. Most of the villagers had saught refuge in Caorioc during this time, but upon their return, found it overrun with Gwyllt, and those that remained, dead. It took many weeks to retake and secure the village in its entierity. Horrified at the sight of her village's near destruction, she felt a strong desire to do something to help make it a safer place. Eventually, she decided it was her Duty to become a Galloglaigh, and use her skills and talents to defend not only her village, but anyone who would call upon them to help. So, seeking out contacts she had made over her years travelling round Bruid, she was able to get a recommendation to join Cumhact na Réig, doing so in 800 TR.

Through their experiences with the band, and their many years travelling, they now specialze themselves in academic pursits, being a Scholar of Anatomy, Magic, and Five Realms lore.
Early Life
Anámhin is a Leasiar from Siabhal, born in the summer of 669 TR into a Ruby Family who are descended from one of the Hundred Heroes, legendary figures in Siabhal's history, and are thus considered members of the Ruby Court.

Travelling the Five Realms
Anámhin left Siabhal a long time ago and has spent many years travelling the Five Realms.

Anámhin in Bruid
Anámhin would eventually find herself in Bruid in the Spring of 731 TR. Taking a particular liking to the people and way of life in Bruid, she would evnetually make the Realm her home. While based out of Bruid, many more years of travel and exploration would follow, particularly in Baol and Uasa, but they would always always come back to Bruid, making her home in a modest village near the boarders of the Great Forest, between Siorghlas and Lorbeer.

The Time of Uncertainty (798-800 TR)
With the Great Forest's expansion over the Seasons of Uncertainty, Anámhin found her village was now deep within its territory. Most of the villagers had saught refuge in Caorioc during this time, but upon their return, found it overrun with Gwyllt, and those that remained dead. It took many weeks to retake the village in its entierity, and Anámhin was there for the final stages of the fight. Horrified at the sight of her village destroyed, she felt a strong desire to do something to help make it a safer place.

Morrigan: /* Siabhal */

The society of the Five Realms of Tirneach is founded upon the rule of the Réig and those who have been granted elements of their authority. Each of the Five Realms is ruled by a Iarla (pronounced yarla), except for Uasa which is governed directly by the Réig. The Iarlas are granted their power in exchange for oaths of loyalty and service to the Réig. Iarlas are appointed for life and their title is not inherited by the heirs upon death. Although, in exceptional circumstances the Réig may honour someone with a title that can be inherited for a number of generations, whether or not the next Réig will recognise this grant is an open question.

The Iarlas devolve their power to Riders who govern over smaller regions within the realm. Once again this power is granted in exchange for oaths of loyalty and service and the titles are not usually inherited. The Réig does not directly appoint Riders but they can exert significant influence over a Iarla’s choice if they wish, although careless use of this influence would be seen as overreaching.

The Réig, the Iarlas and the Riders are collectively known as the Tiarnaí.
<noinclude>
Riders, Iarlas and the Réig
Riders
The feudal system in the Five Realms recognises three ranks. The lowest of these is the Rider, who rules directly over the common-folk. A Rider has been granted their land by the Iarla of the Realm (or the Réig in the case of Uasa) in recognition of a great service, almost always from while serving as a gallóglach themselves. The size of the land granted is commensurate with the scale of the service and varies widely, though the minimum is as far as a person can see when mounted on horseback. In the case of an especially great service, for example saving the life of the Iarla in battle, the grant might be made for more than one generation. This is the only official way of keeping land within a Rider’s family as an inheritance, however for influential Riders their offspring or foster children will find ample opportunity to distinguish themselves and be granted their parent’s land for their lifetime.

Riders who have been given a multi-generational grant are typically seen as especially high status. However, in some realms Riders who inherit their title are looked down upon by their peers. This is particularly common in Bruid where Riders who have inherited their rank are often only referred to by their family name until they are deemed to have earned one of their own.

Under the law of the Five Realms all Riders are equal, which enables the constant squabbling and skirmishing over borders between them, but naturally those who have done the greatest deeds and who possess the most land have the most power within the Realm and sway with the Iarla, but even they are limited to what they can hold by strength of arms against the Gwyllt and their rivals/neighbours. Within Draiod there is another wrinkle to the principle of equal status between Riders; the Council of the Saoi ruled Draíod before the Réig united the Realms, and many say they still rule. The council is composed of the foremost scholars and tactical geniuses of the Learned Realm, and they advise (not to say direct) the Iarla in their rule of Draíod. Each and every Saoi is also a Rider, and while there are Riders who are not Saoi, their holdings are always above ground and therefore deemed far less important. This situation causes ongoing consternation from without Draiod, but the Draíodaigh provide much expertise in the Shaper’s arts so it has so far been tolerated.

Riders are strictly limited in the size of the militia they can employ, dictated by the size of their lands. Most Riders with smaller holdings must hire the gallóglaigh to deal with larger threats or to make their ambitions a reality. A Rider is expected to manage their own income, whether by maintaining their own lands or extracting tithes or rent from the people who live there.

Every five years a Reckoning takes place in the Realms, with the Réig’s clerks circulating to a different Realm each year. The Reckoning is both census and ordnance survey, taking a record of who rules where and how many people they rule over. The official borders are thus redrawn every five years, and the strength of the Rider’s claims reaches its zenith at this time. The months preceding a Reckoning are called “the golden time” by the gallóglaigh bands, on account of the extra work they can count on as Riders set their sights on nearby lands.

Iarlas
Above the Riders, and nominally keeping them in line, is the Iarla. An Iarla rules over each Realm except Uasa, and within their Realm their word is second only to the Réig’s. The Riders are bound to them by an oath of fealty, renewed every five years at the Reckoning. Each Iarla has their seat in and around the capital settlement of their Realm, but they may keep lands elsewhere, as is the case with Siabhal. The Iarlas are charged with keeping the peace in their Realm, which some choose to see as keeping it from the brink of civil war while others prefer to employ guards to patrol the Réig’s Road and keep the gallóglaigh bands on their books from one end of the year to the other.

Just like the Riders, the Iarlas must renew their fealty to the Réig every five years, at the Reckoning of Uasa. The oaths they swear are not widely known, but legend says they are like those sworn by the gallóglaigh, but all the more potent, filling both the Iarlas and the Réig with torrents of power from the Shaper Themself. These oaths have not stopped attempts (some successful) at seizing the throne over the centuries, but the terrible price that breaking the oaths extracts from traitors has made sure that they have not lived long after their attempt.

The Réig
For more information, please see page for the Réig

The Réig is the root of all authority of the Five Realms. They are required to balance keen martial prowess and skillful diplomacy to retain order over the Five Realms.

House Roaring Thunder, a Drakeblooded house is sworn to the service and protection of the Réig.

The High Families
Tirneach is an ancient place, and before the advent of the Réig there were other societies with rulers who traced their lineages back to even more far flung times. Although they have no official standing as rulers in the Five Realms of today, their descendants remain powerful and influential. Often they are among the wealthiest families in their realm and can be expected to have the ear of their Rider or Iarla.

These High Families, or more formally: Na Ard-Teaghlaigh (pronounced ard chai-lig), often play important roles in the running of their realms. Local coordination of tax collection, road maintenance, irrigation, and many other tasks is assigned to these prestigious families, providing them with the power and responsibility appropriate to their station. This provides an arena of competition away from the battlefield for the High Families, as a family that is seen as failing to adequately fulfil their duties might see their responsibilities poached by ambitious peers. Additionally, all members of the High Families are eligible to serve as Galloglaigh by birthright

Another thing that sets the High Families apart from the common folk of Tirneach is their practice of inheritance by Tanistry. Shortly after a new Head of the Family takes up the role, the family meets to appoint their Tanist; who will serve as their second and is expected to take up the role of Head of the Family upon their death. The eligible candidates and the eligible electors are any among the family whose grandparent was a Family Head. This leads to broad and contentious competitions which do not always succeed in remaining civil. However, the practice has ensured that the High Families have never been short on heirs to take up their name and that those heirs must prove their worth before they can lead the family. The chieftains of Uasa are unique among the High Families in scorning this practice.

The Ruby Families of Siabhal
The most illustrious of the High Families are the Ruby Families of the Realm of Siabhal, named for the Ruby Court in the great city of Iomra. The Ruby Families claim descent from heroes of legend that fought against the Gwyllt at a time when the Gwyllt’s hold on Tirneach was all the more fearsome.

The legends of Siabhal, preeminent among them the Legend of Lobhan, serve as a way of cataloguing the Hundred Heroes of Siabhal and the status of those descended from them. High Families from Siabhal generally style themselves according to their most famous ancestor. For example: “Cillian Ua Fhiona” or “Siún Ní Shiún”, referring to Fiona Who Slew the Red Prince and Siún Who Leapt the Flaming Wall respectively.

Most of the Ruby Families count at least one Rider among their number, but some keep lands without one, which speaks to the status the Ruby Families have maintained in their Realm. The Iarla of Siabhal has always been a descendant of the royalty of the Kingdom of Siabhal, themselves descended from the greatest of the Hundred Heroes, the iconic Finian the Brave.

The Chieftains of Uasa
The chieftains of the tribes of Uasa descend from the shamans who brokered the original deals with the water spirits of the swamps and waterways of Uasa which protected the tribes from the Gwyllt in the terrible days before the Réig came and set Tirneach free. While the tribes of Uasa no longer hold much political power, their leaders are still afforded great respect and all Uasaigh families know which tribe they owe loyalty to by tradition. The water spirits are primaeval forces left over from the Shaper’s act of Creation, and the bargains that were struck have left their mark through the ages in ineffable ways.

The High Families of the tribes practice a peculiar inheritance ritual wherein the children of the current Family Head must retrieve hidden objects from under water. The precise details vary from family to family and the objects they retrieve determine who shall inherit.

The Courtly Clanns of Baol
In the highlands of Baol, some clanns claim preeminence amongst the others based on descent from individuals who served as advisors, scholars, and generals in the Court of the Amber King and Queen. The other clanns each fall into the orbit of one of the Courtly Clanns, though the patterns of alliance and loyalty shift and change over time. The power and influence of these Clanns has declined as the wealth and power of the Guilds has grown in the lowlands. However, the Courtly Clanns stay firm in their traditional lands and traditional ways, faithfully awaiting the foretold return of the Amber Hall.

The Drakeblooded Houses
Every Drakeblooded can trace their lineage back to the dragons of old, and the Drakeblooded Houses keep careful family trees and hold tight to their traditional duties. Virtually every Drakeblooded is a member of one of the ancient houses, though there are a few individuals who are unfortunate enough to be unclaimed at birth or exiled later in life. Exiles are encouraged to allow their children to be adopted by members of their ancestral house in good standing and it is unusual for them to refuse. The Houses take their reputations very seriously and any scion of the house who is spending more reputation than they’re contributing won’t be left uncorrected for long.

The Benefits of High Birth
The chief perks of being born to a Rider or Iarla are the wealth, connections, and opportunities that are available to the child of someone who has managed to secure such a title. From birth, their home is regularly host to all the most influential figures in their locale and the grandees of the realm, or even of all Tirneach, just an introduction or two away. Whether their ambitions are political, economic, or martial; they begin their life’s works with a head start.

The conventions surrounding the children of the High Families and the Tiarnaí vary from realm to realm. All agree however that there are rights and responsibilities conferred on them by their parentage beyond eligibility for joining the Galloglaigh

Siabhal
One of the most commonly visible traditions regarding the children of the Tiarnaí and the Ruby Court in Siabhal is that they be granted the choicest portion of any food before them. If more than one eligible scion is present, they are expected to be able to discern between themselves, with the utmost tact and discretion, who is highest ranked and thus entitled to the honour. It is also expected that the children of Ruby Court be formally introduced to Siabhal society once they come of age, so that their peers may take the measure of them.

Baol
The lowland families in Baol have come to adopt some of the traditions of Siabhal, though they consider wealth to be the most appropriate tie-breaker, rather than heritage. The Highlands scoff and mock any with such lofty notions even though it is rare to see the child of a rider not be amongst the first served at a table in the Highlands. In both regions it is expected that important heirs will make a contribution to their family’s success shortly after coming of age, in the Lowlands this may be securing a valuable contract while in the Highlands this often means leading a successful raid.

Bruid
The people of Bruid aren’t big on perks and those born to the Tiarnaí chiefly receive an expectation that they prove they’re worthy of their status. A child of the Tiarnaí in Bruid may not deny a challenge, unless physically or magically unable, or if it would endanger the community. Each child of the Tiarnaí is also expected to lead a hunt into the forest as soon after their coming of age as is possible.

Draíod
In the interests of furthering their pursuit of knowledge, a child of the Tiarnaí in Draíod is permitted by tradition to read any scroll, tome, or document they come across not individually stored in a locked container. In addition, every child of the Tiarnaí is eligible to enrol in the Arcane College of Crag Oscionn unless they bear a Linebreakers mark, or are marred who are suspected of having removed such a brand.

Uasa
In Uasa, each child of the Chieftans is to be granted safe and free travel across any body of water within the realm. Every child of a Chieftan is also entitled to a personal meeting with the Réig as soon after their coming of age as is reasonable to personally swear their loyalty.
Anámhin left Siabhal a long time ago and has spent many years travelling the Five Realms. During their travel, they took a particular liking to the people and way of life in Bruid, and thus decided to make it their home there, first basing herself there in the spring of 731 TR. Many more years of travelling followed, but they always came back to Bruid, eventually deciding to try and settle down properly in a Riding near the boarders of the Great Forest to bring more stability to their life.

While enjoying life in Bruid, they found they still were not completely content with a more settled life, and sought out ways to use their skillset they gained while travelling to have a positive impact on the world, and a life full of Virtuous deeds that would be remembered for generations to come.
Anámhin is a Leasiar from Siabhal, born in the summer of 669 TR into a Ruby Family who are descended from one of the Hundred Heroes, legendary figures in Siabhal's history, and are thus considered members of the Ruby Court. However, the O'Chonlaoch family are merely considered to be part of the Scarlet Circle, still holding their ancestral lands, but lacking significant political and societal influence.

Anámhin left Siabhal a long time ago and has spent many years travelling the Five Realms. During their travel, they took a particular liking to the people and way of life in Bruid, and thus decided to make it their home there, first basing herself there in the spring of 731 TR. Many more years of travelling the realms followed, but they always came back to Bruid, eventually deciding to try and settle down properly in a Riding near the boarders of the Great Forest to bring more stability to their life.

While enjoying life in Bruid, they found they still were not completely content with a more settled life, and sought out ways to use their skillset they gained while travelling to have a positive impact on the world, and a life full of Virtuous deeds that would be remembered for generations to come.

This calling led them to joining Cumhacht na Réig with a recommendation from one of their many contacts they'd previously assisted.

Through their experiences with the band, and their many years travelling, they now specialze themselves in academic pursits, being a Scholar of Anatomy, Magic, and Five Realms lore.

Below is the account of the ritual in which the Band corrected the wrongs to Siabhals heroes, from the point of view of Ultan Twinspear.

[The following is written with utmost care, on a piece of parchment stamped with Ultans sunspear brand]

My fellow Gallóglaigh of Cumhacht Na Réig,

I believe that we as an oathsworn band should be aware of all the great accomplishments we achieve under our illustrious Gallóglaigh banner. To this end I am writing this account to inform any who may not already be aware of the precise nature, intent and outcome of the ritual we undertook on Sunday of our campaign in Siabhal which quelled the distrubed spirits of the heroes of Siabhal.

I wish to make the band aware of exactly the methods which we took to ameliorate the wrong enacted upon the heroes of Siabhal and for the edification of other ritualists. I am however omitting any mission critical information which can be used against us in the future.

The crux of the ritual revolved around an artifact ‘Tome’ which magically bound and twisted these stories through simple script and enforced them with arcane means bound within the artifact. I was able to recognize the Tome for what it was due to my extensive studies in the lore of Magic and its theories. Any who have had similar studies would also be able to tell such items after but a moment of intense concentration on said item.
The tome contained stories of individual heroes we faced by name. Each entry was one page long, and each entry addressed the hero by their commonly used name and title, then the stories began to diverge from standard retellings. In a different script, both color and style of writing, the stories were embellished. These embellishments caused the conjured spirits of the Heroes of Siabhal to become corrupted and twisted to make them see us, rightful enforcers of the Réig’s rule, as enemies of Siabhal. Some accounts noted that they even referred to members of our band as Gwyllt. The Tome specifically made us seem like outsiders, and naturally, this caused the heroes to perceive us as their archetypal enemies and attack our band members and, ultimately, our camp.

The arcane nature of this perversion, and the force of its compulsion, required a significant amount of magical energy to correct. Given this, the establishment of a ritual at the confluence of leylines, commonly known as a ritual circle, and the defense of such a ritual became a tactical imperative. As such, I directed for our forces to reposition to defend it.

Whilst channeling the rite, it was important to reinforce their true stories through arcane scripture. As the leading ritualist I took it upon myself to correct the stories by rewriting the salient points about their fable in the artifact Tome and later proclaiming the corrected tales aloud, since stories need to be heard, retold and remembered, as is their essence. It was important but not critical to draw on parallels between members of our band and the corrupted spirits of the heroes and to root them in the contemporary. It was also important not to deprive them of their core features and meanings such that they are no longer a story, this was achieved by involving people who could relate to these stories in the ritual, so that they could draw on their own experience and anchor the stories back in truth and legend, where they belong.
After the ritual retelling of the Heros’ stories by individuals who resonated with them, the artifact Tome burst into flames and was no more.

This ritual had no required minimum of power and I suspect it would’ve worked even if someone not entirely skilled in ritual craft were to attempt to lead it. However this approach would naturally have risks and should only be conducted in the direst of circumstances. I would recommend the supervision of an adequately skilled Ritualist in the event that such untrained rituals need to be tested.

I wish to thank my contributors for trusting in me as the ritual leader and for their help in completing it as well as the rest of the band for holding steady under the assault of the twisted heroes while we righted this wrong in the ritual.

The contributors were:

Anámhin is a Leasiar from Siabhal born in the summer of 669 TR into a Ruby Family who claim descent from a legendary figure in Siabhal's history (Hundred Heroes), however they left Siabhal long ago spent many years travelling the Five Realms.
