Rumann MacUltan
Peacesworn Advisor and Trader
Early Life
The MacUltans are a minor noble house of the Siabhal's Ruby Court, and what renown they have was earned on the battlefield. Síle MacUltan, also known as Síle the Swift, was famous for her single-handed defeat of the Flamewreath Serpent during her time as a gallóglaigh, and her eldest son Duarcan has proven to be equally talented with a blade. The same cannot be said of Rumann, her younger son. Seemingly showing no aptitude for warfare Rumann dedicated himself to his studies, learning the ways of the merchant and the diplomat. He developed a network of contacts amongst the other noble families, as well as with the traders and farmers that are the lifeblood of Iomra. He studied the writings of the wisest cinnirí to better know the Shaper, and poured over maps and journals created by the most dedicated cartographers and explorers to better know the Five Realms. Apparently it came as quite a surprise to his family when he declared he would not only become a Gallóglaigh but he would also swear the Sixth Oath and become a Peacesworn, joining Cumhacht na Réig.
Cumhacht na Réig
As a Peacesworn, Rumann cannot serve the Band in the traditional ways. Instead he acts as an advisor and mediator, both within the Band and for groups that are willing to pay for such assistance. He also leverages the contacts he has made amongst noble and mercantile families to secure resources, particularly artisan goods from Siabhal such as parchment and glass. He even has several arcanists on retainer that can create valuable magical artefacts.
When the Cumhacht na Réig gather, Rumann serves as Reconnaissance Officer, working to collate any information the Gallóglaigh find, sifting through rumours and whispers to find connections and prepare the Band for future threats.
Season of Renewal
Officially adopting the position of Reconnaissance Officer, Rumann spent most of his time in Siabhal investigating the Iarla's concerns about rebellious Riders. His findings were compiled and presented to the Band in his Report.
One of the missions assigned by The Thane involved investigating a recently uncovered tomb in the area. What the Gallóglaigh found there was actually the final forge of Micheál the Reforger of the Hundred Heroes, and they retrieved a magical artefact that was revealed to once have held Micheál's notes on his final and greatest creation, an impenetrable suit of armour. Sadly Micheál was murdered before he could finish his work but the artefact allowed Rumann to channel some of Micheál's power, protecting the armour of his colleagues during the climactic battle against the False Heroes.
