The Fifth of the Five Oaths events, that took place between 30th June and 2nd July 2023 in Collon Scout Camp.

Event Blurb

As Tirneach begins to enjoy the stability brought by the new Réig, the people look forward to a period of peace and prosperity, and the Arcane College of Draíod looks to expand its campus to reach new heights (and depths).

However the college is surrounded by sealed tunnels swarming with threats. Some from the Siege of the Blazing Host. Others older, and in some cases forgotten.

Cumhacht na Réige has accepted the task of clearing the way for the College’s expansion and hunting down a collection of menaces, new and old. Setting up camp in a clearing on the surface, opportunity and peril wait below in the tunnels of Crag Oscionn in equal measure.

Occurences during the Event

The Band was presented with six bounties by the Arcane College, and they managed to complete them all.

  • The Golden Caorthannaigh - Identifiable by their Golden Armour, this creature was slain on the first evening, and the Golden Armour retrieved. However, the Armour was thought to attract Sluagh, who were attacking the camp until a ritual was enacted to destroy the Armour, however, this assumption later proved untrue.
  • Sadhbh Saoislayer - A Breaker Cult leader, Saoislayer was encountered in a remote series of tunnels by one of the Band's roving patrols, and she and her cultists were easily dispatched.
  • The Sluagh King - The location of this horrific writhing mass of Sluagh was provided by a concerned local, and although the Band were driven back on their first attempt to slay this monster, they were able to apply the lessons they learned and dispatch it when it attacked their camp.
  • The Rot Mother - This incredibly dangerous abomination was responsible for swarms of fungus-infested undead, and was only defeated by demonstrations of Clarity and Perseverance that allowed the Band to find and exploit what few vulnerabilities it presented.
  • Bán - The leader of a pack of Cabhrúcailleach that had been engaged in coordinated thefts of artefacts from the Arcane College. Unfortunately, although the pack was dispersed and Bán slain, the magical items remain unrecovered.
  • The Physick - One of the few missions Cumhacht na Réige would have gladly engaged in for free, The Physick had a dark history with the Band. Infamous for experiments on the Weeping, this depraved Grave Robber was traced to abandoned tunnels under the Arcane College, and after over an hour of fighting through his minions the Band captured him. After an interrogation The Physick was executed for willingly and maliciously creating undead, as well as dozens of other offenses against the Shaper and the Realm.

These were not the only jobs the Band completed, nor the only foes they faced. Along with the traditional Judgements delivered by the band, they also funded several research projects from scholars at the Arcane College, though they rejected a number over safety concerns. More significant was the unidentified flora creature that attacked the Band multiple times over the campaign. Although the Band managed to drive it away on each occasion, its final attack came as the Band were returning with the captured Physick. Exhausted, injured and moving through twisting tunnels, the Band's rear-guard was struck by the flora monster. At one point the creature's powerful enchantments struck down almost all the rear-guard, with only Smeagol left standing. Smeagol managed to hold the creature off long enough for his colleagues to recover, but eventually succumbed to his wounds.

Besides the bounties, contracts and judgements completed by The Band, they also cleared collapsed tunnels around Crag Oscionn. On the advice of the Band, many of these tunnels were allocated to the Riding of Mealldáv, under Caoimhín Thunderbrand.

Officers for the Event

Casualties

  • Smeagol - Highlander Barman of the Amber Wolf, slain by the flora monster while preventing it breaking through the rear-guard.
